Artist BIO

Amelia Mayes is a painter and designer based in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She received her BFA in Studio Art from the University of Arkansas and a Minor in Art History. Amelia works primarily in oil paint but enjoys exploring other mediums like paper, textiles, and ceramics.

Amelia's work explores the joy and beauty found in everyday life, and she defines her work with a characteristic of “southern charm”. Born and raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Amelia’s practice is deeply influenced by growing up in a more urban area but constantly interacting with rural experiences. Amelia’s work often features humorous undertones, personal images, and animal subjects to encourage imaginative narrative for her audience. Her work also reflects her relationship with faith and aims to encourage a new perspective of familiar images and motifs by skewing color, light, and context. She relies on mark to create a sense of energy within her subjects and hopefully compels curiosity from her viewers.  Amelia creates with the intention that her work will someday hang in personal spaces and homes, bringing joy to every viewer.
